Durham Homelessness is a data visualization project and digital product. Using the ProPublica API to show legislations (and lack thereof) with representative information, it is a quick and easy tool to contact representatives and add transparency to politics in Durham, North Carolina.

Local politics is crucial to all creatives. Instead of taking a solutionist approach to political issues, the simplest, secure approach is organizing information of what is already there.

Narrowing down eventually is combining a mobile-friendly approach to simply call representatives quickly, and visualizing data provided by ProPublica's database. The tool could then be focused be open with maximum accessibility for all citizens in Durham.

Trust in our governance is down to an all-time low. Compassionate tools for trust-building are essential to trust our institutions again.

While the brief is focused on the question of community trust, the paths towards that trust are winding, complex paths. Navigating these paths also meant fast iterations to actually see where users fall in the functions of the site.

Pulling from the ProPublica API meant capturing keywords across a huge database. Deciding the right keywords also became a complex process, with millions of dollars on the line.

While the site is refined by keywords on homelessness and housing, visualizing the data and building the brand meant building a system for layers and layers of impact.
